Alphonse Weekly Fishing Report – 5

The week first week of November started with strong south-easterly winds as this season continues to run late but the early season bonefishing has continued to impress as have the triggerfish, trevally and permit catches.

The week proved to be a big GT week with some real monsters landed on the flats, in the channels and along the surf line. The normal bouts of tackle failures occurred though as numerous anglers lost tackle to these big unforgiving ‘tackle busters’ but Andrew Martin managed to hang onto an unforgettable brace of big fish.

His first GT measured 112cm (63lb) and a couple of days later he topped it with a fish of 118cm in length and 90 cm in girth (75lb); Stanislav Gorbounov also landed a personal best GT of 111cm (60lb).

The week got even better when Andrew Wood and Sergey Ivanyutin both landed ‘Flats Slams’ comprising a GT, triggerfish and bonefish all in one session.

The following week kicked off with another two ‘Flats Slams’, eight GT’s, two triggers and the great bonefishing continued with 112 landed!

Arthur Wickson and Simon Dawes both landed GT’s, triggers and bonefish during the day to complete their ‘Flats Slams’, while Justin McCarthy got stuck into the GT’s and ended up with a tally of three for the day then went to catch his first Indo Pacific permit later in the week.

As the week progressed the GT catches continued with numerous fish in the 80 – 95cm range. Rafn Valur Alfredsson landed his first GT of 104cm (50lb) and by the end of the week there were 17 GT’s, 8 triggerfish, 396 bonefish, 1 permit, 2 sailfish, 19 bluefin trevally and 2 wahoo landed on fly.

Tight lines from the Alphonse team!
