Wild Trout Trust 2007 Open DayThe next Wild Trout Trust Open Day will be held on the River Wharfe that runs through the Bolton Abbey Estate on 24th May 2007.The theme for the day will be 'Managing Spate Rivers for Wild Trout and Nature Conservation’. Partners involved in the event include The Wild Trout Trust, Bolton Abbey Estate, FWAG, Environment Agency (TBC), Association Of Rivers Trusts, Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust, Natural History Museum (TBC) plus others to be announced. The audience will comprise FWAG members, local angling clubs, conservation agencies, Wild Trout Trust Members. Key Objectives: 1) To demonstrate/discuss the issues & problems affecting larger spate rivers (with talks) 2) To undertake a river walk to show the above including the solutions needed. 3) To undertake a ‘live’ programme of practical measures to protect/improve habitat 4) To provide demonstrations on river entomology/mink trapping/tree management Issues that will be part of the day: 1) Restoring eroding banks – willow spilling/logs/kicker trees/fencing (River Wharfe and Hambleton Beck) 2) Introduction of large woody debris 3) Sustainable land use 4) The Riverfly Partnership 5) Control of invasive species It is proposed to undertake a live demonstration of stream-bank restoration techniques. This will be work in progress to show guests damaged banks, work underway and completed works. All are welcome to attend and the day is free. A £5 donation to cover the cost of lunch is requested.
