Product Description
A new range of flylines aimed at the dedicated seatrout angler have now been launched by Wellard and Scott. These lines branded as Sewincaster come in only one AFTM size WF8, but there are 3 sinktips with different sink rates and a full floater available.

Appearance & First Thoughts

These new lines have been nearly 4 years in development by that well know seatrout guru Illtyd Griffiths. The sinking tip sections of these lines have been weight balanced to give a smooth hinge free turnover so essential when casting large tubes or snake flies. All of these lines are 30yds (90ft) long and are built on a supple braided mono core. The intermediate and medium-fast sink tip sections are 15ft long and the ultra-fast tip is 24ft and all are attached to the chartreuse coloured belly and running line by a very smooth welded joint allowing very easy mending of the line on the water to speed up or slow down the flies progress. The belly and running line are high floating with a nice smooth easy to handle finish. No roughness was detected anywhere along the length of the line.
A nice touch at the rear end of the running line is a small neat welded loop to attach the backing line loop to loop.

The sink rates are:
Type 1 1.5 – 2 inches per second Clear tip
Type 3 3 – 4 inches per second Brown tip
Type 6 5 – 6 inches per second Dark Grey tip

Performance & Opinion
Because the tips of these lines are density compensated they will allow the fly to be fished at a specific depth across a wide range of river conditions and give the angler a good direct striking path to the fish, crucial to the effective hooking of seatrout. They will also aid the rod loading for short casts.
Despite being developed specifically as the first dedicated fly lines for seatrout anglers the Sewincaster lines will also perform well when using a single handed rod for salmon or for some saltwater fishing in non tropical temperatures.

Testimonial

Richard Evans the Secretary of New Dyfi Fishery with a 13.5 lb sea trout caught last week on a SewinCaster 15' Type 3 tip.

According to Richard "This is the best sea trout line I have ever cast in 40 years fishing. This fish was caught on my second outing with this line - the first outing also produced three sea trout between 2.5 and 4lb."
