GREAT THINGS TO DO THIS SUMMER
With the summer holidays coming up it is a great time to either carve some time for yourself on the river or do something with the family. I was out fishing until nearly 10pm last night & kept on until I couldn't see the fish I could hear slurping down some sort of surface flies.

The Day Rod prices step down considerably in July/August; the main Test beats are half the price they were in the Mayfly & some of the chalkstreams in the 'satellite' counties are great value. For instance Boreham Mill on the Wylye at £60 & Donnington Grove on the Lambourn at £65 are exceptional.

For the family the package at Western Court Trophy Lakes is great fun. Bring a picnic, chill out on the veranda of the Fishing Cabin whilst the instructor has the hassles of looking the after the children, wife & family dog, plus the responsibility of providing a fresh trout for the lunch BBQ.

Western Court is open every day in July & August. The Family Day package costs £345 and includes fishing for four, a dedicated instructor, exclusive use of the lakes & facilities, licences, tackle & VAT. The lakes are just outside Alresford in Hampshire, less than an hour from the M25.

RIVER LAMBOURN
Donnington Grove

This photograph was taken last Saturday at Donnington Grove, on the River Lambourn.
It is a wading beat, mostly to knee depth, but there are a few sections where chest waders are required.

This is a great beat if you like sight fishing, where there are plenty of wild fish in the 9-12" slot.
