"In the mid 1990’s, when we investigated the possible the causes of decline of the Wye fishery, we found it was a range of problems that had combined to put the river into its poor state. Acidification, diffuse and point pollution, barriers to fish migration and habitat degradation were the primary causes. This meant that current levels of fish exploitation were also impacting as a secondary cause. It wasn’t simply the number of problems but the extent to which each and almost every tributary had been affected by them that had caused the severity of the decline."

Listen in as John Bailey talks to the Foundation staff about their very important work and how the rivers have changed.
