In a series of what we are calling "Campfire tales", John Bailey shares stories from his fishing trips around the world. In this one he is in the remote Himalayan land of Kashmir where the ancestors of Scottish trout now make their home in the wild mountain streams.

"I was last in Kashmir some fifteen years ago when the capital Srinagar was all but overwhelmed by the daily outbreaks of unrest. A bridge close to our car was bombed. I witnessed the shooting of a bus stop queue by two hooded men speeding by on a scooter. After dark, explosions continually rocked the city and the fire power flickered the night sky like fireworks. Later, though, out in the countryside Kashmir was serene and beguiling and the trout fishing just as good as ever."
