Russian Salmon report
publication date: Aug 28, 2007
Our Acha programme on the Ponoi this season once again produced a large number of fish - almost 2600 Salmon between 110 rods, with roughly 43 percent MSW fish. The largest a magnificent trophy of around 30 lbs – The top rod caught 102 salmon in his 6 ½ days fishing - what superb fishing! I doubt there is anywhere else in the world where you can experience such prolific and reliable Atlantic salmon fishing.
The weather this season was tough and unmerciful – throughout all 9 weeks we where buffeted by strong gales and bitterly cold weather - well – we were on the frontier of what is possible, from both a weather and logistics point of view – however many of our rods have already rebooked for 2008 – the Ponoi will rarely let you down!
The Kola River was also a major success in 2007 – listen to this – Five (5) gigantic Salmon well above Forty pounds were caught in June – as well as 30 salmon in the range of 32 to 36 lbs – and plenty of salmon in the twenty pound bracket. In total the Kola River produced roughly 1800 Salmon between 120 rods – the Kola River is a very sensible card to play if you are after big trophy salmon. This non Helicopter programme is especially interesting for those who value accommodation highly. The programme revolves around a luxurious timber camp with a communal building for eating and socializing. Single accommodation is in comfortable cabins and you will have your own personal fishing guide for the whole week.
