review by Allan Sharman

The Artist & the Fly FisherPieter Zaadstra is an Australian artist from Tasmania. This book is the result of commissions and an invitation by fly-fishers to visit the Central Plateau of the Tasmanian Highlands. It contains sketches and art-work from the authors visit which complements the text which contains hints for artists as well as brief descriptions of lakes and places visited. It is enough to make you put the location on your list of places you would like fish!

Pieter is obviously an accomplished artist but admits he is no great fly-fisherman. The sketches and pictures are the main part of the book. It is not a ‘how to’ or ‘where to’ book and you will still need to do a lot of investigation and planning before making a trip. It is certainly a nice introduction though to what is available in the area and certainly whets the fly fishing appetite.

This is probably more of a coffee table book than anything else being a very pleasant book to dip into or would also make a nice Christmas present for the angler who has everything.
