Jack's Rod - the first in a new series of the classic countryside programme 'Out of Town'

Country Channel TV and Fish & Fly are delighted to announce that 'Jack's Rod', the pilot episode of OUT OF TOWN 2, can now be viewed online. You can also click here for part 1 or click here for part 2 to be taken directly to those parts of the programme. It is a great privilege to step into the territory of the late, great countryman Jack Hargreaves and take his iconic series of countryside programmes forward to a new audience and a new era. The original 'Out of Town' series ran for over twenty years, underpinned by Jack's philosophy that 'the only way to save the countryside is to show people exactly what happens in it'. Jack's gentle manner and perfect knowledge of countryside ways made his programmes a staple of family viewing from the late 1960's to the early 1980's. In this new series, Country Channel hope we have captured the spirit of Jack Hargreaves, a broadcasting legend with a unique appreciation of rural life. 

In 'Jack's Rod', the first episode of the new series, world-renowned fly fisherman and Fish & Fly team member Charles Jardine (whose father fished with Jack Hargreaves) compares the 1950's Ogden Smith 'Warrior' split-cane rod used by Jack with his own modern Hardy Marksman carbon-fibre rod - and catches some trout!
