Wild Trout Trust – Annual Get-together - April 12th & 13th

Hosted by Hardy & Greys, Alnwick

This year’s Get-together will see the Trust returning to Hardy & Greys HQ, in Alnwick, Northumberland.

The event runs over two days and is open to members and non-members. Attendance on both days is optional, as is a fundraising dinner planned during the evening of Saturday the 12th.

On Saturday the 12th Hardy & Greys are hosting WTT for a day at their HQ in Alnwick. On offer will be a series of presentations on wild trout conservation, entomology and fishing, including  a tour of the Hardy Museum with none other than Jim Hardy himself. There will also be opportunities to have a go at identifying river flies using the latest state-of-the-art ‘on-screen’ equipment, with a chance to learn fly tying and fishing  techniques from leading experts such as Charles Jardine,Stuart Crofts and Howard Croston. During the day Managing Director of Hardy & Greys, Richard Sanderson will announce the recipient of the 2008 Hardy & Greys / WTT Conservation Bursary (£1000+ rod)

The casting pool will also be operation throughout the day. This will be coupled with an attractive discount on purchases made in the Compleat Angler Store for existing WTT members and those that join on the day. Members and non-members are also encouraged to bring juniors along (7 – 16 years). All juniors attending on the day will be presented with a one year complimentary membership of the WTT and a Hardy & Greys goodie bag.

The Saturday event is free to both members and non-members. A buffet lunch will be provided for  which there is a recommended donation of £5.

On the Saturday evening there will be an informal fund-raising dinner at Alnwick Castle (tbc). Tickets priced at £30 are available on request from the WTT Office. As part of the evening, guests will be ‘encouraged’ to ‘dig deep’ and take part  in an affordable auction of various fishing related lots, including tackle donated by Hardy & Greys. To finish the evening WTT is delighted to announce that our after dinner speaker will be Dr John Smith, who will give an illustrated and highly amusing talk on the “The Medical Hazards of Fly Fishing” – you have be warned!

On the Sunday WTT is hoping to be able to offer a limited number of complimentary day rods for those dinner guests wishing to make a weekend of it. It is hoped we will be able to offer beats on a variety of local rivers, including the Tyne and Coquet, plus an option for some still water sport. Rods will be available to dinner guests on a first come first served basis.

The weekend is open to members and non-members and representatives from fishing clubs are also very welcome to attend. One of the primary aims of the Get-together is to raise awareness of the work of the WTT and how it can assist clubs plan and deliver wild trout conservation  projects. The weekend is great opportunity for all those attending to meet other like-minded individuals and organisations in a relaxed and informal setting.

We look forward to seeing you there!
