From Bonefish & Tarpon Unlimited (BTU)

BTU-supported tagging research being conducted by Mike Larkin and Dr. Jerry Ault at University of Miami, Rosensteil School for Marnine and Atmospheric Science is generating some interesting results. Thus far, 6,617 bonefish have been tagged in Florida. There are now two recaptures in The Bahamas.

You'll remember the last bonefish that was tagged in the Florida Keys, and 321 days later was recaptured by an angler fishing in the Middle Bight of Andros. That was in 2006.

Fast-forward to 2008. A bonefish that was tagged in the Florida Keys in 2007 was just recaptured in Middle Bight, Andros, with 204 days between benig tagged and recaptured.

We also recently received word that colleagues working in Hawaii had a bonefish that was tagged on Oahu recaptured on Molokai. So maybe longer distance travel isn't as foreign to bonefish as we thought.

There is still a long way to go to determine if this type of travel is common, so the research continues.
