THE LODGE

The Blackwater LodgeBlackwater Lodge is an informal, comfortable lodge-style guesthouse in a magnificent location overlooking the world-famous Munster Blackwater - one of Europe’s most spectacular salmon rivers. It’s a no-nonsense, friendly place, where the comfort and enjoyment of salmon anglers
is the top priority - truly a specialist sporting lodge. For years, the Blackwater Lodge has been the hideaway of salmon anglers from all over Europe and North America. They return again and again because of our relaxed atmosphere and beautiful location.

The scene of many a fishing story - maybe one of yours will be next?Historically the Lodge was formerly the railway station for the village of Ballyduff. It was built in 1882 & the line eventually closed in 1967. Construction of the Lodge as we know it now began in 1971 around the old station buildings.Spacious, yet cosy and with a chatty atmosphere. Its lounge has bay windows which have a superb panoramic view overlooking the Blackwater river.

THE FISHING

Blackwater Lodge beatmap

The Blackwater Lodge has totally exclusive fishing rights on an enviable selection of 16 of the best beats on this superb salmon river. Our beats have been carefully chosen to offer anglers a variety of fast water, flats & deep pools to suit all fishing methods. The beats are rotated on a daily basis. You fish a different beat every day. The number of rods is normally limited to two per beat (fly-only) or four per beat (all methods).

The huge extent of our fishery means that we can follow the runs of salmon from the lower beats in low water conditions to the upper river when they run through in high water. A car is essential due to the extent of the river covered by our fishery. Alternatively, we can arrange transport to the Lodge and a gillie to take you to the beats.
