With the delayed start to the netting season off Norwegian shores, the 2008 salmon fishing season has got off to a wonderful start. Many mighty salmon, for which Norway is justly famous, have been caught and many more lost after epic battles. Here are the latest catch returns which represent probably around 70% of the actual catches as some beats have not yet reported. Nevertheless the figures speak for themselves. Norway is a fine place to be fishing in June!

River Namsen
This June fishers on the river Namsen landed over 3,166 salmon. And what fish they were:
10 x 40lb+. Avg 41.8lb
61 x 30 to 39lb. Avg 32.5lb
320 x 20 to 29lb. Avg 22.8lb
1130 x 10 to 19lb. Avg 14.3lb
1647 x 9lb or less. Avg 5.1lb
Even though many of these fish are taken by harled spinner, at a little over 100 fish a day this river system is enjoying fine returns of very high quality salmon by any standards.
River Gaula
June’s catch reported so far is 1,843 salmon at an average size of 17.94lbs. With the top ten fish averaging 40.15lbs. Magnificent fish and wonderful fishing.
River Orkla
832 salmon at an average weight of 17.08lbs. The top five fish averaged 40.7lbs.
River Alta
Around 200 fish reported so far averaging 24.9lb. The top ten fish average 44lb with two over 50lb one of which was caught by 15 year old girl, Katrine Opgård.
