To borrow a phrase - "Go West young man!". Charles Jardine shares details of two of the UK's lesser known chalk streams, the rivers Piddle and Frome and the fly fishing opportunities they offer.
"So often you hear the weary comment: “God couldn’t get a day on the Test” Wholly inaccurate, of course he could – and indeed so can anyone given fairly substantial amounts of cash. Now though the reputation of an extended stew pond has been exacerbated by the degree of corporate “hospitality” on this once noble stream – some areas stand as beacons to a rich fly fishing legacy – but not many. In many instances, it has descended to being a large trout “put and take” water, driven more by commercialism, than fly fishing passion."
"Reflecting more on our Fish & Fly visit to the San last week, and before I go off again with another group next week, it occurs to me that there are numerous small aspects that make a destination fishing trip, or even a regular session on a local water, either a success or a failure."
Read on as Jeremy tells us more in this second part of his report about the lessons learned during the recent Fish&Fly members trip to the San River in Poland.
If James Brown was the "godfather of soul", surely Charles Jardine owns the title "godfather of trout"! In this new series, Charles shares with us his trips around the country and each time spotlights a fishery he has recently visited, passing on tips and observations in his own inimitable style that will help make the most of any fly fishing outing.
Join him now as he visits the "Big R", Rutland Water, and enjoys dry fly fishing that was in his words - "among the best I have EVER experienced!"
Fresh back from the inaugural members trip to the San River in Poland, often the star of Jeremy Lucas's very popular "Fishing on the Frontier" series, he gives us the low down on the weeks events! Grayling and Brown Trout kept our lucky members happy throughout the week and they also learned from one of the best the tactical methods for approaching this water and others like it.
Last year we ran two stories from world travelling fisherman Guy Elson - "Fly Fishing Adventures in Guatemala" and "Bluewater in Belize" (see the links at the end of the article to read these again). Now Guy makes a welcome return with a new travellers tale from British Columbia where he has been chasing Bull Trout in the snow and ice around Squamish, B.C.
Arkadi de Rakoff of Club Fish France introduces us to an area of France which as yet has not received the recognition it deserves as one of France's premier trout destinations. Welcome to the Dordogne!
