"In a rough and tumble, helter skelter spring with a fly rod; from deep cold to deep drought, to storms and floods in May! And from the most perfect opportunities for upstream dry for wild trout snatching down the best hatch of March Browns I have ever witnessed in England, on Eden, to chasing rainbows very much looking upwards on Stocks, to catching a few of the best reservoir rainbows in the country, on Chew Valley Lake – and losing the spring international, big time! Sometimes, it seems like too much."
Jeremy Lucas continues his Fishing on the Frontier series....
Zepter Passport have some high season dates left for this year that they are offering to Fish&Fly readers before anyone else.
With cheap flights to Europe, late summer is the perfect time to be planning a getaway to the beautiful clear rivers of the Balkans. Prices start at only 530 Euros and apart from the daily fishing licences are all-inclusive from being picked up at the airport until you are dropped off at the end.
A new season brings new thoughts and ideas from 'Fishing on the Frontier' columnist Jeremy Lucas.
"I think that fishing on the frontier has several meanings. They include the frontier methods every bit as much as fishing in outland locations or international level. These are the top methods that we have arrived at in our hugely subtle sport, for specific species in particular environments. Without regular practise with any of them, we lose our skills set, and finally our ability to properly engage the fishing situation. We drift off into the region of the also-rans and just know that we fall a long way short of what is possible out there."
Nestled deep in the Sussex weald, this string of 4 lakes originally created by Who frontman Roger Daltrey nearly 3 decades ago continues to attract a strong following of loyal regulars thanks to its location, peacefulness and the quality of the fishing as well as the experience. We paid a recent visit to East Sussex to see what spring had in store at Lakedown Trout Fishery.
