Fly Fishing in the Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada

Half of the sport catch of Atlantic salmon in North America comes from the Miramichi river and its tributaries. This is a natural wonder so rare and incredible it has attracted people like Marilyn Monroe, Prince Charles, and U.S. Army General Norman Schwarzkopf hoping to hook the king of fish. But don’t let celebrity status put you off! Anyone is more than welcome to enjoy the river’s history, sport fishing challenges and idyllic scenery.

The stories they tell are as big as the fish that test the anglers on this river. But it doesn’t stop with the fish. Miramichi legends are legendary! Ask a local for their favourite. You’re sure to hear the one about the “Dungarvon Whooper”. You’ll also learn the colourful lingo of the region where every quiet pool and legendary river bend has a name, from Push and Be Damned Rapids to the Turnip Patch. “Miramichi” itself is thought to be a Native word “Maissimeu Assi” meaning Mi’kmaq Land. That campfire time is storytelling time. And the memories you’ll capture here will be big as any fish you could land!
