The superb 2010 runs of salmon and sea trout into the Tyne continue with the fish pass at Riding mill recording another record month. The count for September 2010 was 11,548 which is the best since records began in 1996. The count for the year which stands at 35,442 fish is also a record to the end of September, beating the previous best by over 7,000. Regular rainfall has provided excellent fishing conditions and the rods this month have had great results.

Although the fish counter does not distinguish between salmon and sea trout, video analysis routinely undertaken by the Environment Agency suggests that sea trout normally out number salmon by approximately 2:1 over the year.
