Norway restricts sea netting for salmon
Directorate for Nature Management in Norway (DN) is suggesting to restrict considerably the sea netting for salmon along the Norwegian coast and fjords.
Rivers too will face restrictions, mainly as reduced catch numbers per day/week/season combined with introduction of catch and release. In principle - anyone can continue fishing as long the fish is released, but fishing has to end when/if a fish is killed.
The map below indicates (in red) the areas where DN is going to restrict considerably sea netting as from the 2010 season. This will allow larger quantities of salmon to reach their spawning areas, particularly the big salmon arriving in early June.
Orkla River management has already initiated reduction in catch numbers to safeguard it's big salmon - allowing larger numbers of its big salmon to reach their spawning areas. Please PM Harald Oyen if you request more information.
