    lyn and lynher

What line strength would be good for worm fishing the west country rivers-Lyn and Lyhner? 15lb line I feel is too heavy so would a 8lb line suffice? I imagine the water is very low now so does anyone know if fish are being caught?

    Lyn Salmon

The Lyn is very very low with no prospects of significant salmon until we have heavy rain.
The Lyn is a very fast flowing rocky river and when a salmon is hooked it often needs to kept in the pool it is hooked in. This needs a cool head and a reasonably strong line. The rocks and boulders can prove very abrasive and snag tackle frequently. For this reason I use a minimum of 12lb b.s line, more often 15lb b.s as this is the maximum allowed, using light line will result in possible lost fish trailing hooks and exhausted fish that cannot be returned with a good chance of survival.
It may be possible to hook more fish with lighter line especially the sea trout but this is balanced by the above.
