A new study suggests that the common practice of clipping the adipose fin of hatchery salmon may be damaging their swimming ability and survival rate. Netsmen who fish Devon's River Exe have agreed to a conservation deal aimed at restoring the stocks of what was one of England’s best salmon rivers. Hit by a summer drought and high water temperatures (see recent picture, left), the Miramichi River in New Brunswick, Canada, has announced a closure of its main salmon fishings as anglers await further rain.
