17lb Brown Trout on 2lb Tippet Poised for World Record

American angler Curtis Fleming potentially set the new men’s 1 kg (2 lb) tippet class world record for brown trout (Salmo trutta) on May 28th with this beautiful 7.82 kg (17 lb 4 oz) fish he caught and released while fishing a feeder stream of the Big Cedar Creek in southwestern Virginia, USA.

Fleming persuaded the record trout to eat a well-placed woolly bugger and needed only 5 minutes to net the fish, which he released alive after it was properly documented and weighed. The current IGFA record is 5.67 kg (12 lb 8 oz).
