The Fly Casting World Championship (owned by the Norwegian Casting Federation), held every two years in August, is coming to the UK in 2018. It is taking place at Wyldecrest Parks’ holiday village in Millom, Cumbria, thanks largely to the help of AAPGAI Master Instructor Lee Cummings, who lives right next to the holiday site and uses its lake all the time. He has set up United Kingdom Fly Casting Sport to provide a fully equipped training facility and a legitimate pathway for ALL casters wanting to represent the UK in future Fly Casting World Championship competitions.
“This is the fifth event of its kind and we are expecting teams from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Russia, USA, Australia, Switzerland, Ireland, Germany, Jersey and Finland” said Lee Cummings, founder of UK Fly Casting Sport and organiser of the UK event.
“What we want to create is a fully equipped training and competition facility here at Port Haverigg and a legitimate way of submitting a team. Previously a few of us went to the worlds but as we envisage a bigger competition this time round, we had to get up and running quickly so that we could run a qualifier if need be, plus there can only be 8 casters per nation, per event. Now that UK Fly Casting Sport will soon become ICSF registered we will be above-board. In the future I would like to see records set and held here and also an academy for interested youngsters, the future of the sport.”
The championship is a six discipline competition: five distance casting events and one accuracy casting event. In total, there will be 36 medals up for the taking.

“I can’t picture a better scenario and location to stage this reputable world-class event”, said Alfie Best, the Wyldecrest Parks’ Chairman.
The holiday park venue, which features a 200-acre fresh water lake right next to the sea, is under a massive development and upgrade programme that includes, amongst others, a brand new luxury leisure complex being built alongside the stunning caravans and lodges already available.
“We are in no doubt that our site has the world-class facilities required to host such a prestigious competition and we also have the ancillary facilities on site to welcome large numbers of both competitors and spectators alike to make the championship a benchmark for years to come”, Michael Wilds, the company’s Senior Holiday Sales Manager guarantees.
