Iceland's Hofsa, Sela and Big Laxa rivers open their accounts

Iceland’s River Hofsá was opened up for angling last night and Vigfus Orrason caught eight salmon to his rod on beat 5.

Also last night the four Sela rods caught eight salmon. The Russian ambassador to Iceland caught three salmon and Johannes Baldursson – who was fishing a Sunray Shadow – caught a 100 cm and very thick fish which is probably the largest salmon caught in Iceland this season.

On the Big Laxá Robert Haraldsson caught a 95 cm salmon and at Fljotaa a trout fisher caught an 85 cm salmon.

Other rivers: The final tally for opening day for the West Ranga was 18 salmon, mostly in the 8-10lb range. For further Icelandic river reports – including East Ranga, Blanda, Vididalsa – see ‘Salmon and Destination Fishing Forums’ under ‘Forums’ on the header of the Fish and Fly home page above.
