In this made-for-TV episode Rae starts his journey on Lough Currane in Country Kerry – a water famed for its brown trout and its run of salmon and sea trout.
And it’s the latter Rae is targeting first, with a little help from a couple of local guides, his appetite whetted by news that the lough recently produced a venue record fish going over 13lb.
Next it’s on to Lough Derriana in the company of fly fishing guide John O’Shea, as the pair keep on the move and adapt to the conditions to catch the lough’s resident and colourful wild Irish brown trout.
As normal Rae is soaking up the culture and history of the area as well as making the most of the fishing opportunities, and he rounds off the trip in magnificent style by joining John Quinlan for an evening’s rock climbing with some super fly fishing for hard-fighting Atlantic pollack at the end of it.
