Where the Muddler is king of the castle

“It is late July and it is that time again for my bi annual Hebridean adventure to Harris, Land Rover packed, rods, reels and hundreds of Muddlers at the ready. Driving to Ullapool the day before my ferry is always an exciting time, full of anticipation and excitement thanks to the fact that I will be fishing my favourite waters in my favourite destination.

Friday lunchtime and the Isle of Lewis draws into Stornaway harbour to what is some classic Hebridean weather – wind and driving rain. This was absolutely fantastic and exactly what was needed after the prolonged drought that had hit the island since late spring.

Throughout the week we fished the classic lochs of Voshmid, Scourst & Ulladale along with the castle system which resulted in the usual explosion of first-class sea trout fishing that Amhuinnsuidhe is famous for combined with some fine salmon in-between.

The accommodation and company at the castle along with the food were first-class as always. Also, many new friendships were forged with the summer season gillies who were just first class.

For those of you who have not been, Amhuinnsuidhe is not just about the fishing. This is a unique destination that offers quality in every degree. The fishing has not changed here in hundreds of years and as such is timeless. When I visit Amhuinnsuidhe the very true saying always resinates , If you want to catch big fish then visit Norway, If you want to catch lots of fish then visit Iceland, If you want a fantastic fishing holiday then visit Scotland.

Amhuinnsuidhe captures the spirit of the saying to the highest degree and will not disappoint.

See you in 2013!”
