A collection of wooden carvings of the British Record game fish and others by the late, great Umba fishing guide Nick Podolsky are under the hammer at Bonham’s latest Sporting Art sale to be held in Edinburgh on Tuesday 23rd May.
Lot numbers 138 through to 145 feature the game fish carvings that were previously displayed on the walls of Farlows’ iconic shop in Pall Mall for 15 years and include replicas of the following; –
Also featured are carvings of an arctic char, a 20lb salmon plus a beautifully marked Kola brown trout all caught by Podolsky himself. A grayling of 4 lb 3 ounces was intended to represent the British record grayling but Podolsky, being Russian, carved his local and more familiar Arctic grayling instead.
Also featured in the sale is a wonderful carving by Roger Brookes of a 40lb salmon caught on the Lower Tay.
