A report in the DailyMail.com tells that German angler Marco Liebenow landed an Atlantic halibut off Norway last week that could shatter the current IGFA world record of 418lb, set in 2004 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The report tells that the 513lb fish was brought to the side of Liebenow’s boat after a 90-minute fight, whereupon the crew determined that is was too dangerous to bring aboard, so they tail-roped it and towed it back to port to be weighed on a certified scale.

Liebenow has submitted paperwork to the IGFA and is awaiting confirmation of the fish’s record status.
