Merry Christmas from ASR

With the festive season now upon us, we can report that the conditions on the tundra have been cold with low amounts of snow fall thus far. The ice is building on the rivers and nature is working its magic to bring about another generation of fabulous ASR salmon.  Although the snow has been light, it is far too early to tell what sort of winter the Kola will experience this year.  Frequently, the really heavy dumps of snow do not appear until late January and February or even later as demonstrated in 2014 when there were big and persistent falls well in to April. Last year the total overall snow pack was less than normal and although spring broke early we still enjoyed a fantastic season of overcast skies, mild temps, periodic showers – along with impressive numbers of salmon.

The post-season anti-poaching program has been as extensive as ever and, as the respective camp guards prepare for the serious part of winter, we are undertaking the last few elements of provisioning and preparation for the long dark polar nights through to spring.

We were delighted to see so many of our ASR friends with us recently in London to celebrate the 175th year anniversary of Farlows. Many of you have already sought to make your arrangements to revisit the rivers for the 2016 season and we are delighted to be welcoming back so many ASR regulars.  Many weeks are now fully committed, but particular commitments mean that a handful of long standing regulars are having to take a reluctant and enforced sabbatical from their normal weeks in 2016.  This means that a small number of slots have become available during the June and July weeks in addition to the Three Rivers programme. There are also a couple of places left in August on the VIP trout programme that allows guests to stay at the Kharlovka camp and use the helicopter to find the big trout upstream. If you haven’t yet decided on your plans for next season and are interested in taking up one of these slots, do get in touch with us as soon as possible.

From Vladimir, Justin and all the team at ASR, we wish you good health and good cheer for a wonderful festive period and are looking forward to sharing the camps with you again in 2016.
