World Rivers Day – Kids, Creeks & Nature

Have a look at this short video in which along with the children of Gilpin Elementary School in Canada, river advocate and founder of World Rivers Day, Mark Angelo, talks about the importance of engaging children with nature. A great way to do that is for adults to explore a local stream with the little ones in their lives.

A truly global event, World Rivers Day, which falls on Sunday September 24th this year, is a celebration of the world’s waterways. “It highlights the many values of our rivers, strives to increase public awareness, and encourages the improved stewardship of all rivers around the world.  Rivers in virtually every country face an array of threats, and only through our active involvement can we ensure their health in the years ahead.”

Watch your local and the fishing press (including us!) for news of events you can get involved with on World Rivers Day. Plenty of organisations such as the Wild Trout Trust in the UK are involved as supporters of the event. Contact them if you have an idea for an event of your own as they have resources to help you plan a successful event.
