Good News for Florida’s Everglades and Estuaries

On May 9th Governor Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 10, which will accelerate the planning and implementation of a new reservoir in the Everglades Agricultural Area. The much-needed reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee will curb the harmful discharges to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers while at the same time restoring the flow of clean water south to the Everglades and Florida Bay. The Bonefish & Tarpon Trust applaud Governor Scott and the Florida Legislature for their commitment to Everglades restoration, which is critical to the environmental and economic health of the state.

They also thank Orvis for its leadership in advocating for solutions to restore the Everglades and Florida Bay and reverse damage to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries. The passage of SB 10 is a testament to the company’s steadfast commitment to conservation as it successfully rallied anglers across the country and party lines in support of a common cause. BTT appreciates being named by Orvis as one of the four conservation groups that played a major role in the success of this promising legislation, and we value Orvis’ support of our efforts to protect and restore bonefish, tarpon, permit, and their habitats.
